Global AI chip revenue will reach $53.4 billion this year

According to market research agency data, global semiconductor revenue for artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to grow 20.9% in 2023 compared to 2022, reaching $53.4 billion.

Gartner vice President analyst Alan Priestley said the development of generative AI and the widespread adoption of various AI-enabled applications in data centers, edge infrastructure, and endpoint devices will require the deployment of Gpus and optimized semiconductor devices, which will drive the production and deployment of AI chips.

The agency further pointed out that the next AI semiconductor revenue is expected to continue to maintain double-digit growth, which will grow 25.6% in 2024 to reach $67.1 billion, and by 2027, AI chip revenue is expected to more than double the market size in 2023 to reach $119.4 billion.

In addition, as the use of AI for work in the enterprise matures, more industry and IT organizations will deploy systems containing AI chips. In the consumer electronics market, Gartner estimates that AI application processors for devices will be worth $1.2 billion by the end of 2023, doubling from $558 million in 2022.

According to Gartner, the need for efficient and optimized designs that support cost-effectively performing AI work will lead to an increase in the deployment of custom designed AI chips. For many organizations, large-scale deployment of custom AI chips will replace the current dominant chip architecture for further use in a variety of AI applications employing generative AI technologies.
